Twinings – Morning Tea

In 1717, Thomas Twining opened The Golden Lyon, in London; the world’s first tea house to welcome women. 300 years on, this story inspired Twinings to create their new Morning Tea.

Master tea blender Philippa Thacker and Stephen Twining (10th generation member of the Twinings tea family) embarked on a tour to be inspired by Australian women and to discover what they seek in their morning cup. They discovered that what women really wanted from a cup of tea was refreshment, and this was the inspiration for creating the new, Twinings Morning Tea.

Morning Tea is a blend of both high and low grown Ceylon teas from the beautiful island of Sri Lanka – the high grown teas impart a refreshing character to the blend whilst the low grown tea gives colour, flavour and body.

Twinings Morning Tea has a clean flavour with no aftertaste, and can work equally well with a little milk, simply black or with a slice of fresh lemon.

As part of the celebration of this new tea blend, Twinings invited inspiring Australian women to create artworks to become pack designs for this tea and the top four finalists (out of a field of 33 incredible designs) of the Twinings Design Challenge are:

  • Carrie Bickmore – Beanies 4 Brain Cancer
  • Emma Freedman – Captain Courageous Foundation
  • Nicole Kidman – Variety: The Children’s Charity.
  • Samantha Harris – Make-A-Wish Australia

One design must remain to be chosen as Australia’s favourite – Australians will have a chance to vote for their favourite design and voting is open, running between now and the 8th of May. The pack design that accumulates the most votes will remain on shelf and 10c for every pack sold will be contributed to the winner’s charity of choice over the next 4 years.
